Private Birthing lessons with Célia Hughes

Célia Hughes, midwife and lactation consultant (certified in France).
"As a midwife (from France) I offer private lessons for mothers-to-be or couples.

I usually do at least four sessions during the pregnancy to have enough time to discuss the birth process, the birth plan and the relaxation and breathing techniques (2h-2.5h/each session).

The first part is about pregnancy and the birth process: anatomy and physiology, relaxation and comforting techniques, breathing during labor, and massage.

The second part aims to prepare you for breastfeeding and the post-partum period. I usually start around the 30-32 weeks of pregnancy. I can do sessions in the evening or during the weekend."

For more information please consult Célia's website or send her an email:

Breastfeeding: Baby feeding cues

Lactation consultant Iona Macnab has shared with TPG this very useful chart of baby feeding cues.

From Iona:

"Be sure to breastfeed baby BEFORE the crying, it's a lot easier when baby is calm.

Also, be sure to watch the presentation on How Babies Sleep on my website: http://www.ilactation.com/akiajzua3l3kd2i3tiga-1384841847-f5gqxjzukrepb-byazjijkgrcwp8-d/

Good breastfeeding information can be found at www.kellymom.com and for parenting tips you can also go to www.askdrsears.com

But remember, nothing beats a face to face mothers group if you can get out of the house and go, it will revitalize you and give you ideas for your parenting bag of tricks!

My email is blue.sky@gol.com if you have questions."

Paint with Stars Photography

My name is Lisa, and I am a photographer based in Tokyo. I moved to Japan from the San Francisco Bay Area about four years ago, and I run a blog called "paint with stars". It gives me so much joy to capture special times and everyday moments, preserving them in images filled with color and emotion. So much happens in life, and the ongoing rush can often make us forget. My goal as a photographer is to create pictures which bring us back to those moments, keeping those little instants of time fresh in our hearts.

While pregnancy is a wonderful, special time, there is often lot of discomfort. Hormones that are very necessary for this amazing process can cause a variety of both physical and emotional issues.  Don't suffer!  Support the well-being of you and your baby with a professional pregnancy massage.

I'm Lisa, New York State licensed massage therapist at Club 360.  I'm also fully certified in both Pregnancy Massage and Medical Lymphatic Drainage.  Did you know that a professional pregnancy massage not only combats the aches and pains associated with pregnancy, but reduces swelling, enhances mood and even LOWERS the chance of premature birth?  That's the documented medical research!  There is NO research indicating that professional massage is in any way linked to miscarriage.  If you have been advised against massage by your Japanese doctor or turned away by local establishments, please come see me.

Club 360 offers a 30% discount off your first 60 minute massage. (That's a 60-minute massage in Tokyo for only 7,000 yen!)  We are conveniently located in Moto Azabu, just a few minutes walk from Roppongi Hills.  Massage treatments are provided in a private room with access to a clean shower after if desired.  I am generally available Monday-Saturday by 24 hours notice appointment.  Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions you may have.

Thursday 5th, September 2013

Speaker: Allison Evans
Topic: Thriving in the postpartum period
Location: TBD
Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm

"In our culture we believe the postpartum period is necessarily brutal:  no sleep, sore nipples/bottom/belly, hormones making you crazy, both mother and baby crying, no time even to shower. . . .  The postpartum period has such a bad rap that the word alone is becoming synonymous with 'postpartum depression.'
"In fact, that’s a big, fat, dirty lie, and it’s time to start disbelieving it.  Yes, it’s true that sometimes it is brutal.  But, my friends, it doesn’t have to be.  Postpartum depression is not universal; it is cultural.  In some cultures it does not exist.  You can create a culture for thriving postpartum right in your own home!  With the right attitude and a good deal of planning, it is possible to have not just an un-brutal postpartum period.  You can have a magical one.
